Looking At Ourselves Through Another
Silvia Martinez and Maria Eugenia Poblete Beas
Opening Thursday April 10th, 6-9 PM
Exhibition dates: April 10th- 21st
Silvia Martinez has a background in both art and architecture. As a life long immigrant woman artist born in Argentina, raised in Canada and living in Norway, Martinez attempts to stimulate the relationship between identity, art and territory through various projects. Her work is based on information originating from distinct cultural systems. It tells a story of immigration and the effects of cultural interaction. She has participated in shows both nationally and internationally, including Blue Lights from Dark Time (La Commune, Paris), Movimiento (University of Santiago, Chile) and La Chasse (Galleri Le Point, Montreal).
Originally from Chile, Maria Eugenia Poblete Beas earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Chile (Universidad Arcis, 2005) and a Masters in Visual and Media Arts in Canada (UQAM, 2010). In Quebec, she participated among others in the 24th International Symposium of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul (2006). She currently divides her work between Canada, Chile and Switzerland..
